No ifs, no butts: It's time to prepare for the smoking ban
Overview
Smoking in virtually all public spaces and workplaces is about to become illegal. The ban is already in force in Scotland and will come into effect on 2 April in Wales, and 1 July in England.
Employers should take action now to ensure that they are ready for the ban as soon as it comes into force. This may entail making changes to working policies and practices which go beyond simply instructing employees to stop smoking on company premises.
With this in mind, employers need to:
Assess the current position
Devise a communications programme
Review smoking areas
Prepare smoking policies
Enforce the ban
Support your employees
